The Threat of the Far Right to Democracy on the Second Day of the Ágora-R Conference

The second day of the Ágora-R 2026 Conference, organized by ECOAR))) in Vigo, brought together dozens of people to examine the current threats to democracy. At 6:00 p.m., Pablo Elorduy opened the session with the talk “Not One Step Back! Silicon Valley Embraces Fascism” where he analyzed the alliance between major tech corporations and reactionary movements. He pointed out how algorithms and the attention economy contribute to disinformation and the erosion of the rule of law, a trend highlighted in international reports.

At 8:00 p.m., Irene Zugasti delivered the talk “They will not silence us! How are wars told to us? Geopolitics and communication.” The journalist examined the mechanisms of pro-war propaganda and the double standard in media coverage depending on who the victims are, warning about the declining credibility of official Western narratives.

The program continues this Friday, March 20. At 6:00 p.m., Tica Font, from the Centre Delàs d’Estudis per la Pau, will deliver “Your Wars, Our Dead! Europe and Its Rearmament Plan” a critical analysis of the increase in military spending and its social consequences.

The day will close at 8:00 p.m. with Anna Gabriel’s talk, “Hate Out of Our Streets! Municipalism Against the Far Right”. We will reflect on the role of municipalism and neighborhood mobilization in curbing hate speech and strengthening democracy from the local level.

Tomorrow we will continue analyzing the reality that surrounds us through debate and collective reflection, weaving shared networks.

No one will do it for us!
